Article D49-30 of the French Code of Criminal Procedure

The sentence enforcement judge orders the extraction of sentenced persons, either with a view to their appearance in his chambers when he has deemed it useful, or to proceed with the adversarial hearings provided for by law when these do not take place within the prison establishment, or more generally for the enforcement of a decision falling within his jurisdiction. He shall request extraction by the police, gendarmerie or prison administration services in accordance with Article D. 315.

Le juge de l’application des peines ordonne l’extraction des condamnés, soit en vue de la comparution de ceux-ci dans son cabinet lorsqu’il l’a estimé utile, soit pour procéder aux débats contradictoires prévus par la loi lorsque ceux-ci n’ont pas lieu au sein de l’établissement pénitentiaire, soit plus généralement pour la mise en application d’une décision relevant de sa compétence. Il requiert l’extraction par les services de police, de gendarmerie ou de l’administration pénitentiaire conformément à l’article D. 315.
