The birth unit has at least one labour room.
All equipment and devices are immediately available and for the exclusive use of the labour room.
The labour room is set up so that the parturient can benefit from clinical and paraclinical monitoring of the progress of labour, the expulsion phase and delivery. This monitoring continues for two hours after the birth. The newborn receives first aid. The facilities are equipped with all the medical equipment required for vaginal delivery, anaesthesia and resuscitation of the mother.
The layout of the room takes into account the possible presence of a companion with the expectant mother when such a presence is authorised.
An order by the Minister for Health specifies the number of pre-delivery and delivery rooms required, depending on the activity.
