Operating theatres must be set up in such a way that they can be used at night as well as during the day. Emergency lighting must be provided in the event of a power failure.
They must be heated and ventilated. Back-up or emergency heating must be provided to ensure that a sufficient temperature is reached quickly and in all seasons.
The equipment in the operating theatre must include in particular :
1° An operating table allowing the patient to be placed in any operating position and, in particular, in the Trendelenburg position;
2° Metal tables or trolleys for storing operating instruments and equipment;
3° Washbasins, providing bacteriologically controlled water for washing operators’ hands and located, if possible, outside the operating theatres themselves;
4° Oxygen therapy equipment.
