Article D6124-51 of the French Public Health Code

The minimum capacity of six beds may exceptionally be reduced to four if the neonatology unit is geographically isolated, more than an hour’s journey from the nearest neonatology unit and if the needs of the population so require, provided that the isolated unit meets all the conditions laid down in articles D. 6124-50 to D. 6124-57.

La capacité minimale de six lits peut être exceptionnellement réduite à quatre dans le cas où l’unité de néonatologie est géographiquement isolée, à plus d’une heure de trajet de l’unité de néonatologie la plus proche et si les besoins de la population l’exigent, sous réserve que l’unité isolée remplisse l’ensemble des conditions prévues aux articles D. 6124-50 à D. 6124-57.
