All self-dialysis units operate with the assistance of nephrologists who are qualified or competent in nephrology.
The team of nephrologists may be shared with that of a haemodialysis centre or a medical dialysis unit.
This team is on call twenty-four hours a day to respond to any medical emergencies for patients undergoing dialysis in the unit. This on-call service may also be provided under the conditions set out in article D. 6124-69.
The unit provides each patient treated with a visit from a nephrologist from the above-mentioned team, during the session, at least once a quarter for simple autodialysis and at least once a month for assisted autodialysis, as well as a consultation with a full medical examination in a consultation room, which may be outside the autodialysis unit, at least once a quarter, without prejudice to other nephrology consultations depending on the patient’s medical needs.
