Article L111-6 of the French Consumer Code

The producer of goods with digital components shall inform the professional vendor of the period during which software updates provided by the producer remain compatible with the functionalities of the goods. The seller shall make this information available to the consumer.

The producer shall inform the consumer, in a legible and comprehensible manner, of the essential characteristics of each update to the digital elements of the good, in particular the storage space it requires, its impact on the performance of the good and the changes in functionality it entails.

The terms of application of this article shall be specified by decree.

Article L111-6

Le producteur de biens comportant des éléments numériques informe le vendeur professionnel de la durée au cours de laquelle les mises à jour logicielles, que le producteur fournit, restent compatibles avec les fonctionnalités du bien. Le vendeur met ces informations à la disposition du consommateur.

Le producteur informe le consommateur, de façon lisible et compréhensible, des caractéristiques essentielles de chaque mise à jour des éléments numériques du bien, notamment de l’espace de stockage qu’elle requiert, de son impact sur les performances du bien et de l’évolution des fonctionnalités qu’elle comporte.

Les modalités d’application du présent article sont précisées par décret.
