Article L131-14 of the French Monetary and Financial Code

Any cheque for which the corresponding funds are available to the drawer must be certified by the drawee if the drawer or bearer so requests, unless the drawee replaces the cheque with a cheque issued under the conditions set out in the third paragraph of article L. 131-7.

The certified cheque remains blocked, under the responsibility of the drawee, in favour of the bearer until the end of the presentation period set by article L. 131-32.

Tout chèque pour lequel la provision correspondante existe à la disposition du tireur doit être certifié par le tiré si le tireur ou le porteur le demande, sauf la faculté pour le tiré de remplacer ce chèque par un chèque émis dans les conditions prévues au troisième alinéa de l’article L. 131-7.

La provision du chèque certifié reste, sous la responsabilité du tiré, bloquée au profit du porteur jusqu’au terme du délai de présentation fixé par l’article L. 131-32.
