Article L131-17 of the French Sports Code

With the exception of sports federations approved on 16 July 1992, only delegated sports federations may use the designation “Fédération française de” or “Fédération nationale de” as well as award or have awarded the designations “Equipe de France” and “Champion de France”, followed by the name of one or more sports disciplines, and include them in their articles of association, contracts, documents or advertising.

The chairman, director or manager of any legal entity who uses these designations in breach of the provisions of the first paragraph is liable to a fine of €7,500.

A l’exception des fédérations sportives agréées à la date du 16 juillet 1992, seules les fédérations sportives délégataires peuvent utiliser l’appellation ” Fédération française de ” ou ” Fédération nationale de ” ainsi que décerner ou faire décerner celle d'” Equipe de France ” et de ” Champion de France “, suivie du nom d’une ou plusieurs disciplines sportives et la faire figurer dans leurs statuts, contrats, documents ou publicités.

Le fait pour le président, l’administrateur ou le directeur de toute personne morale d’utiliser ces appellations en violation des dispositions du premier alinéa est puni d’une peine d’amende de 7 500 euros.
