Article L131-18 of the French Sports Code

Organising competitions at the end of which an international, national, regional or departmental championship title or a title likely to be confused with one of these titles is awarded without being the holder of the delegation provided for in article L. 131-14, in breach of the provisions of article L. 131-17, is punishable by a fine of 7,500 euros.

However, approved sports federations may issue national or federal champion titles and regional or departmental titles, followed by the name of the federation. The list of titles referred to in this paragraph is set by decree in the Conseil d’Etat.

Article L131-18

Le fait d’organiser, sans être détenteur de la délégation prévue à l’article L. 131-14, des compétitions à l’issue desquelles est décerné un titre de champion international, national, régional ou départemental ou un titre susceptible de créer une confusion avec l’un de ces titres en infraction aux dispositions de l’article L. 131-17 est puni d’une peine d’amende de 7 500 euros.

Toutefois, les fédérations sportives agréées peuvent délivrer des titres de champion national ou fédéral et des titres régionaux ou départementaux en faisant suivre ces titres de la mention de la fédération. La liste des titres visés au présent alinéa est fixée par décret en Conseil d’Etat.
