Article L131-54 of the French Monetary and Financial Code

Any obligor against whom recourse is taken or who is exposed to recourse may demand, against reimbursement, the return of the cheque with the protest and an acquitted account.

Any endorser who has reimbursed the cheque may strike out his endorsement and those of subsequent endorsers.

Tout obligé contre lequel un recours est exercé ou qui est exposé à un recours peut exiger, contre remboursement, la remise du chèque avec le protêt et un compte acquitté.

Tout endosseur qui a remboursé le chèque peut biffer son endossement et ceux des endosseurs subséquents.
