Article L131-61 of the French Monetary and Financial Code

The protest must be made by a notary or bailiff at the domicile of the person on whom the cheque was payable, or at his last known domicile. If the address is falsely stated, the protest shall be preceded by a search warrant.

Le protêt doit être fait, par un notaire ou par un huissier, au domicile de celui sur qui le chèque était payable, ou à son dernier domicile connu. En cas de fausse indication de domicile, le protêt est précédé d’un acte de perquisition.
