Article L132-25 of the French Insurance Code

Where the insurer has no knowledge of the designation of a beneficiary, by will or otherwise, or of the acceptance of another beneficiary, or of the revocation of a designation, the payment of the guaranteed capital or annuity to the person who, but for the designation, acceptance or revocation, would have been entitled to it, shall discharge the insurer in good faith.

Lorsque l’assureur n’a pas eu connaissance de la désignation d’un bénéficiaire, par testament ou autrement, ou de l’acceptation d’un autre bénéficiaire ou de la révocation d’une désignation, le paiement du capital ou de la rente garantis fait à celui qui, sans cette désignation, cette acceptation ou cette révocation, y aurait eu droit, est libératoire pour l’assureur de bonne foi.
