Article L133-42 of the French Monetary and Financial Code

Where a payment transaction is initiated via the payee as part of a card-related payment transaction and the exact amount is not known at the time the payer gives his consent to the execution of the payment transaction, the payer’s payment service provider may block funds on the payer’s payment account only if the payer has given his consent as to the exact amount of funds to be blocked.

Lorsqu’une opération de paiement est initiée par l’intermédiaire du bénéficiaire dans le cadre d’une opération de paiement liée à une carte et que le montant exact n’est pas connu au moment où le payeur donne son consentement à l’exécution de l’opération de paiement, le prestataire de services de paiement du payeur ne peut bloquer des fonds sur le compte de paiement du payeur que si celui-ci a donné son consentement quant au montant exact des fonds à bloquer.
