The Agence nationale de santé publique is a public administrative body under the authority of the Minister for Health.
The Agency is responsible for
1° Epidemiological observation and monitoring of the state of health of populations;
2° Monitoring the health risks threatening populations;
3° Promoting health and reducing health risks;
4° Developing prevention and health education;
5° Preparing for and responding to health threats, alerts and crises;
6° Launching health alerts.
The Agency is responsible for implementing a national health monitoring and surveillance system, for which it defines the guidelines, leads and coordinates the actions, in compliance with the missions devolved to the regional health agencies.
It implements, in conjunction with the compulsory health insurance schemes and the statistical services of the ministerial departments concerned, a tool for centralising and analysing statistics on accidents at work, occupational diseases, diseases presumed to be of occupational origin and all other data relating to health risks in the workplace, collected in accordance with article L. 1413-7.
It is responsible, on behalf of the State, for the administrative, financial and logistical management of the health reserve and of stocks of products, equipment and materials as well as services required to protect populations from serious health threats. It manages the health reserves and coordinates their network.
