Article L172-6 of the French Insurance Code

If the insurer establishes that there has been fraud on the part of the insured or his agent, the insurance taken out for a sum greater than the real value of the insured item is void, and the premium is forfeited.

The same applies if the insured value is an agreed value.

Si l’assureur établit qu’il y a eu fraude de la part de l’assuré ou de son mandataire, l’assurance contractée pour une somme supérieure à la valeur réelle de la chose assurée est nulle, et la prime lui reste acquise.

Il en est de même si la valeur assurée est une valeur agréée.
