Article L212-6 of the French Cinema and Moving Image Code

The creation, extension and reopening to the public of cinematographic establishments must meet the requirements of diversity of the cinematographic offer, cultural development of the territory, protection of the environment and quality of town planning, taking into account the specific nature of cinematographic works. They must contribute to the modernisation of cinematographic establishments and to the satisfaction of spectators’ interests as regards the programming of a diversified offer, the maintenance and protection of pluralism in the cinematographic exhibition sector and the quality of the services offered.

Les créations, extensions et réouvertures au public d’établissements de spectacles cinématographiques doivent répondre aux exigences de diversité de l’offre cinématographique, d’aménagement culturel du territoire, de protection de l’environnement et de qualité de l’urbanisme, en tenant compte de la nature spécifique des œuvres cinématographiques. Elles doivent contribuer à la modernisation des établissements de spectacles cinématographiques et à la satisfaction des intérêts du spectateur tant en ce qui concerne la programmation d’une offre diversifiée, le maintien et la protection du pluralisme dans le secteur de l’exploitation cinématographique que la qualité des services offerts.
