Article L2151-8 of the French Public Health Code

The importation of embryonic stem cells for research purposes is subject to the prior authorisation of the Agence de la biomédecine. This authorisation may only be granted if the applicant for authorisation certifies that these cells have been obtained in compliance with the fundamental principles set out in articles 16 to 16-8 of the French Civil Code.

The export of embryonic stem cells for research purposes is subject to the same conditions as the import defined in the previous paragraph.

L’importation de cellules souches embryonnaires aux fins de recherche est soumise à l’autorisation préalable de l’Agence de la biomédecine. Cette autorisation ne peut être accordée que si le demandeur de l’autorisation atteste de l’obtention de ces cellules dans le respect des principes fondamentaux prévus par les articles 16 à 16-8 du code civil.

L’exportation de cellules souches embryonnaires aux fins de recherche est soumise aux mêmes conditions que l’importation définie au précédent alinéa.
