Article L2212-4 of the French General Code of Local Authorities

In the event of serious or imminent danger, such as the natural accidents provided for in 5° of article L. 2212-2, the mayor shall prescribe the implementation of safety measures required by the circumstances.

He must inform the representative of the State in the department as a matter of urgency and inform him of the measures he has prescribed.

En cas de danger grave ou imminent, tel que les accidents naturels prévus au 5° de l’article L. 2212-2, le maire prescrit l’exécution des mesures de sûreté exigées par les circonstances.

Il informe d’urgence le représentant de l’Etat dans le département et lui fait connaître les mesures qu’il a prescrites.
