The mayor may, by reasoned order, prohibit access to certain roads or parts of roads or certain sectors of the municipality to vehicles whose traffic on these roads or in these sectors is likely to compromise either public tranquillity, or air quality, or the protection of animal or plant species, or the protection of natural areas, landscapes or sites or their development for aesthetic, ecological, agricultural, forestry or tourist purposes.
In these sectors, the mayor may, in addition, by reasoned decree, subject activities taking place on the public highway to special requirements relating to the conditions of opening hours and access to certain places and permissible noise levels, with the exception of those falling within the scope of a public service mission.
These provisions do not apply to vehicles used to carry out a public service mission and may not be applied permanently to vehicles used for the professional purposes of research, exploitation or maintenance of natural areas.
In mono-communal islands, the prohibition mentioned in the first paragraph may cover the entire territory of the commune.
