Article L2213-6 of the French General Code of Local Authorities

The mayor may, in return for payment of a fee set by a duly established tariff, grant permits for temporary parking or storage on the public highway and other public places, provided that such authorisation does not hinder traffic or the freedom of commerce. The methods of charging and the physical management of vehicle parking on the public highway are governed by article L. 2333-87.

Le maire peut, moyennant le paiement de droits fixés par un tarif dûment établi, donner des permis de stationnement ou de dépôt temporaire sur la voie publique et autres lieux publics, sous réserve que cette autorisation n’entraîne aucune gêne pour la circulation et la liberté du commerce. Les modalités de la tarification et la gestion matérielle du stationnement des véhicules sur la voie publique sont régies par l’article L. 2333-87.
