Article L223-1 of the French Sports Code

Referees and judges carry out their refereeing duties in complete independence and impartiality, in compliance with the rules laid down by the sports federation referred to in article L. 131-14, which is responsible for the discipline and with which they are licensed. This federation ensures the control of the exercise of this mission according to the rules and procedures defined beforehand in accordance with its statutes.

Les arbitres et juges exercent leur mission arbitrale en toute indépendance et impartialité, dans le respect des règlements édictés par la fédération sportive mentionnée à l’article L. 131-14, compétente pour la discipline et auprès de laquelle ils sont licenciés. Cette fédération assure le contrôle de l’exercice de cette mission selon les règles et procédures préalablement définies conformément à ses statuts.
