Article L2511-35 of the French General Code of Local Authorities

Deputy allowances paid to arrondissement mayors may not exceed the maximum allowances paid to deputy mayors of the municipality or of Paris. The functional allowance for deputy mayors of the arrondissements of Paris, Marseille and Lyon who are not municipal councillors or councillors of Paris is at most equal to that provided for municipal councillors of the commune or for councillors of Paris.

L’indemnité de fonction des maires d’arrondissement est au maximum égale à l’indemnité de fonction maximale prévue pour les adjoints au maire de la commune ou de Paris. L’indemnité de fonction des adjoints au maire d’arrondissement de Paris, Marseille et Lyon qui ne sont pas conseillers municipaux ou conseillers de Paris est au maximum égale à celle prévue pour les conseillers municipaux de la commune ou pour les conseillers de Paris.
