Article L331-1 of the French Code governing the entry and residence of foreign nationals and the right of asylum

In accordance with Article 2 of Regulation (EU) 2016/399 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 9 March 2016 on a Union Code on the rules governing the movement of persons across borders (Schengen Borders Code), internal borders are the common land borders, including river and lake borders, of the Member States, their airports for internal flights as well as their sea, river and lake ports for regular internal ferry connections.

Conformément à l’article 2 du règlement (UE) 2016/399 du Parlement européen et du Conseil du 9 mars 2016 concernant un code de l’Union relatif au régime de franchissement des frontières par les personnes (code frontières Schengen), les frontières intérieures sont les frontières terrestres communes, y compris fluviales et lacustres, des Etats membres, leurs aéroports pour les vols intérieurs ainsi que leurs ports maritimes, fluviaux et lacustres pour les liaisons régulières intérieures par transbordeur.
Les frontières extérieures sont les frontières terrestres, y compris fluviales et lacustres, des Etats membres, leurs frontières maritimes ainsi que, pour autant qu’ils ne soient pas des frontières intérieures, leurs aéroports, ports fluviaux, maritimes et lacustres.
