Article L341-2 of the French Code governing the entry and residence of foreign nationals and the right of asylum

Placement in the waiting area is pronounced for a period that may not exceed four days by a written and reasoned decision of an officer in a category set by regulation.
This decision is entered in a register mentioning the civil status of the person concerned and the date and time on which the decision to place him/her was notified. It is immediately brought to the attention of the public prosecutor.

Article L341-2

Le placement en zone d’attente est prononcé pour une durée qui ne peut excéder quatre jours par une décision écrite et motivée d’un agent relevant d’une catégorie fixée par voie réglementaire.
Cette décision est inscrite sur un registre mentionnant l’état civil de l’intéressé et la date et l’heure auxquelles la décision de placement lui a été notifiée. Elle est portée sans délai à la connaissance du procureur de la République.
