Article L425-1 of the French Code governing the entry and residence of foreign nationals and the right of asylum

A foreign national who lodges a complaint against a person whom he or she accuses of having committed acts against him or her constituting the offences of trafficking in human beings or procuring, as referred to in articles 225-4-1 to 225-4-6 and 225-5 to 225-10 of the Criminal Code, or who testifies in criminal proceedings concerning a person prosecuted for these same offences, will be issued with a one-year temporary residence permit marked “private and family life”, provided that he or she has severed all ties with this person. The condition set out in article L. 412-1 does not apply.
It is renewed for the duration of the criminal proceedings, provided that the conditions for its issue continue to be met.

L’étranger qui dépose plainte contre une personne qu’il accuse d’avoir commis à son encontre des faits constitutifs des infractions de traite des êtres humains ou de proxénétisme, visées aux articles 225-4-1 à 225-4-6 et 225-5 à 225-10 du code pénal, ou témoigne dans une procédure pénale concernant une personne poursuivie pour ces mêmes infractions, se voit délivrer, sous réserve qu’il ait rompu tout lien avec cette personne, une carte de séjour temporaire portant la mention ” vie privée et familiale ” d’une durée d’un an. La condition prévue à l’article L. 412-1 n’est pas opposable.
Elle est renouvelée pendant toute la durée de la procédure pénale, sous réserve que les conditions prévues pour sa délivrance continuent d’être satisfaites.
