Article L426-21 of the French Code governing the entry and residence of foreign nationals and the right of asylum

A foreign national who carries out a voluntary service assignment in France with a foundation or association recognised as being in the public interest, or an association that is a member of a federation that is itself recognised as being in the public interest, will be issued with a temporary residence permit if the following conditions are met:
1° The mission is of a social or humanitarian nature;
2° The voluntary work contract was concluded prior to entry into France;
3° The association or foundation has certified that it is taking charge of the applicant;
4° The applicant is in possession of the long-stay visa mentioned in 1° of article L. 411-1;
5° The applicant has given a written undertaking to leave the country at the end of his/her assignment.
The association or foundation mentioned in the first paragraph is subject to prior approval by the administrative authority, under conditions defined by decree.

Article L426-21


L’étranger qui effectue une mission de volontariat en France auprès d’une fondation ou d’une association reconnue d’utilité publique, ou d’une association adhérente à une fédération elle-même reconnue d’utilité publique, se voit délivrer une autorisation provisoire de séjour si les conditions suivantes sont remplies :
1° La mission revêt un caractère social ou humanitaire ;
2° Le contrat de volontariat a été conclu préalablement à l’entrée en France ;
3° L’association ou la fondation a attesté de la prise en charge du demandeur ;
4° Le demandeur est en possession du visa de long séjour mentionné au 1° de l’article L. 411-1 ;
5° Le demandeur a pris par écrit l’engagement de quitter le territoire à l’issue de sa mission.
L’association ou la fondation mentionnée au premier alinéa fait l’objet d’un agrément préalable par l’autorité administrative, dans des conditions définies par décret.
