An information body is responsible for informing persons residing in a Member State which is a party to the Agreement on the European Economic Area, when they are injured in a road traffic accident:
a) Occurring in the territory of one of these States, with the exception of their State of residence, or in a third State whose national bureau has joined the international insurance card scheme ;
b) Involving a vehicle normally based in the territory of the French Republic and insured with an undertaking referred to in article L. 451-2.
When these persons or their representatives so request, the body will provide them with the following information, in accordance with the conditions laid down by decree in the Conseil d’Etat:
1° The name and address of the insurance company covering the civil liability referred to in article L. 211-1 on the date of the accident ;
2° The number of the insurance contract;
3° The number of the international insurance card or frontier insurance contract, if the vehicle is covered by one of these documents;
4° The name and address of the company’s representative in their country of residence;
5° For State vehicles benefiting from the exemption provided for in Article L. 211-1, the contact details of the authorities responsible for compensation.
If the injured party proves that he has a legitimate interest, the information centre will provide him with the name and address of the owner or usual driver or declared keeper of the vehicle involved in the accident.
