Article L511-45 of the French Commercial code

I. – The bearer may claim from the person against whom he is exercising his recourse:

1° The amount of the bill of exchange not accepted or not paid with interest, if this has been stipulated;

2° Interest at the legal rate from the due date;

3° The costs of the protest, those of the notices given as well as other costs.

II. – If recourse is exercised before the due date, a discount shall be deducted from the amount of the letter. This discount is calculated on the basis of the official discount rate set by the Banque de France as it exists on the date of recourse at the place of domicile of the bearer.

I. – Le porteur peut réclamer à celui contre lequel il exerce son recours :

1° Le montant de la lettre de change non acceptée ou non payée avec les intérêts, s’il en a été stipulé ;

2° Les intérêts au taux légal à partir de l’échéance ;

3° Les frais du protêt, ceux des avis donnés ainsi que les autres frais.

II. – Si le recours est exercé avant l’échéance, déduction est faite d’un escompte sur le montant de la lettre. Cet escompte est calculé d’après le taux de l’escompte officiel fixé par la Banque de France tel qu’il existe à la date du recours au lieu du domicile du porteur.
