Article L5134-105 of the French Labour Code

If an employer decides to terminate an employee’s contract for real and serious reasons, the termination must be notified by registered letter with acknowledgement of receipt. This letter may not be sent to the employee less than two clear days after the date set for the preliminary interview. The date of presentation of the letter determines the starting point of the notice period.

L’employeur qui décide de rompre le contrat du salarié pour une cause réelle et sérieuse notifie cette rupture par lettre recommandée avec avis de réception. Cette lettre ne peut être expédiée au salarié moins de deux jours francs après la date fixée pour l’entretien préalable. La date de présentation de la lettre fixe le point de départ du préavis.
