Article L518-19 of the French Monetary and Financial Code

Courts and administrative bodies may not authorise or order deposits to be made with natural persons or bodies other than the Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations and may not authorise debtors, custodians or garnishees to hold such deposits in escrow or otherwise. Consignments made in breach of these provisions are null and void.

Les juridictions et administrations ne peuvent autoriser ou ordonner des consignations auprès de personnes physiques et d’organismes autres que la caisse des dépôts et consignations et autoriser les débiteurs, dépositaires, tiers saisis, à les conserver sous le nom de séquestre ou autrement. Les consignations faites en infraction à ces dispositions sont nulles et non libératoires.
