Article L824-3 of the French Code governing the entry and residence of foreign nationals and the right of asylum

It is punishable by one year’s imprisonment and a fine of €3,750 for a foreign national to remain illegally on French territory without a legitimate reason, after having been the subject of a lawful detention order or house arrest order that has ended without it having been possible to remove him or her in execution of an administrative ban from French territory, an obligation to leave French territory, a decision to implement a decision taken by another State, a deportation decision or a ban from French territory.

Article L824-3

Est puni d’un an d’emprisonnement et de 3 750 euros d’amende le fait, pour un étranger, de se maintenir irrégulièrement sur le territoire français sans motif légitime, après avoir fait l’objet d’une mesure régulière de placement en rétention ou d’assignation à résidence ayant pris fin sans qu’il ait pu être procédé à son éloignement en exécution d’une interdiction administrative du territoire français, d’une obligation de quitter le territoire français, d’une décision de mise en œuvre une décision prise par un autre État, d’une décision d’expulsion ou d’une peine d’interdiction du territoire français.
L’étranger condamné en application du présent article encourt la peine complémentaire de trois ans d’interdiction du territoire français.
