In the event of the diagnosis of a genetic anomaly which may be responsible for a serious condition justifying preventive measures or care, the doctor, except in cases where the person has asked to be kept in ignorance of the diagnosis, shall communicate the result of the examination to the person and then give him/her the document summarising this information mentioned in the second paragraph of article L. 1131-1-2 under the conditions laid down by this provision. In the light of the results of the examination carried out, it also provides the person with the list, amended if necessary, of family members potentially concerned by the genetic anomaly thus identified who must be informed. Copies of these documents are placed in the medical file.
If the person does not wish to inform the members of his or her family potentially concerned themselves and asks the doctor to proceed with the transmission of the information in accordance with the procedure provided for in the fourth paragraph of article L. 1131-1-2, the latter, by registered letter, informs the members of the family potentially concerned whose contact details have been sent to him or her beforehand of the existence of medical information of a family nature likely to concern them. A model letter sent to the family members potentially concerned in application of the fourth paragraph of article L. 1131-1-2 is set by order of the Minister for Health.
