Article R115 of the French Code of Criminal Procedure

The instructing magistrates may authorise the experts to receive advance payments during the proceedings either when they have carried out work of exceptional importance, or when they have been required to make expensive transport or personal advances.

However, the total amount of the instalments may not exceed half of the estimated costs and fees.

Les magistrats commettants peuvent autoriser les experts à percevoir au cours de la procédure des acomptes provisionnels soit lorsqu’ils ont fait des travaux d’une importance exceptionnelle, soit lorsqu’ils ont été dans la nécessité de faire des transports coûteux ou des avances personnelles.

Toutefois, le montant total des acomptes ne pourra pas dépasser la moitié du montant des frais et honoraires prévu.
