I.-When the relevant government departments, the Regional Health Agency or the Nuclear Safety Authority have evidence that a professional activity is likely to use naturally-occurring radioactive substances, the competent authority may ask the person responsible for this activity to carry out a radiological characterisation of the materials, products, residues or waste likely to contain naturally-occurring radioactive substances.
II – Radiological characterisations are carried out by bodies accredited by the French Accreditation Committee or by another member of the European Cooperation for Accreditation and which have signed multilateral mutual recognition agreements under the conditions laid down by an order of the Minister responsible for radiation protection.
III -When the quantity of radioactive substances is less than one tonne and these substances are of natural origin, the activity or facility is exempt from regulatory control, including application of the regimes mentioned in Articles L. 1333-8 and L. 1333-9.
