Article R2512-14 of the French General Code of Local Authorities

The right-hand side of a street is determined:

– in streets perpendicular or oblique to the course of the Seine, by the right-hand side of the passer-by walking away from the river;

– in streets parallel to the course of the Seine, by the right-hand side of the passer-by walking in the direction of the course of the river.

In the islands, the great channel of the river flowing to the north alone determines the position of the streets.

Le côté droit d’une rue est déterminé :

– dans les rues perpendiculaires ou obliques au cours de la Seine, par la droite du passant s’éloignant de la rivière ;

– dans les rues parallèles au cours de la Seine, par la droite du passant marchant dans le sens du cours de la rivière.

Dans les îles, le grand canal de la rivière coulant au nord détermine seul la position des rues.
