Article R2512-7 of the French General Code of Local Authorities

Plaques bearing, along with the number of the arrondissement, an indication of the name of all roads and squares open to traffic are affixed to buildings, whether built-up or not, located at the corner of two roads open to traffic or opposite the junction of one road with another and at all points of squares and crossroads designated by the Mayor of Paris.

A plaque bearing a serial number is affixed to all buildings, whether built or not, located on the edge of either a thoroughfare or a square open to traffic, even when they do not have an exit from the said thoroughfare or square.

Des plaques portant, avec le numéro de l’arrondissement, indication du nom de toutes voies et places ouvertes à la circulation sont apposées sur les immeubles, bâtis ou non, situés à l’angle de deux voies livrées à la circulation ou en face du débouché d’une voie sur une autre voie et en tous points des places et carrefours désignés par le maire de Paris.

Une plaque portant un numéro d’ordre est apposée sur tous les immeubles, bâtis ou non, situés en bordure soit d’une voie, soit d’une place livrée à la circulation, même lorsqu’ils ne comportent pas d’issue par ladite voie ou place.
