Article R313-1 of the French Code governing the entry and residence of foreign nationals and the right of asylum

According to their declarations on the reasons for their trip, foreign nationals whose stay is not of a family or private nature shall present as appropriate:
1° For a tourist stay, any document likely to establish the purpose and conditions of this stay, in particular its duration;
2° For a professional trip, any document providing details of his profession or capacity as well as the establishments or organisations located on French territory by which he is expected;
3° For a stay motivated by hospitalisation, any document justifying that he meets the conditions required by article R. 6145-4 of the Public Health Code for admission to public health establishments, except in the case of seriously ill or injured persons seeking emergency treatment in a French establishment;
4° For a stay motivated by research work within the meaning of article L. 421-15, the residence permit issued by a Member State of the European Union, or by the Principality of Liechtenstein, the Republic of Iceland, the Kingdom of Norway or the Swiss Confederation, the hosting agreement signed in the same State as well as one of the supporting documents provided for in Article R. 313-2.

Article R313-1

En fonction de ses déclarations sur les motifs de son voyage, l’étranger dont le séjour ne présente pas un caractère familial ou privé présente selon les cas :
1° Pour un séjour touristique, tout document de nature à établir l’objet et les conditions de ce séjour, notamment sa durée ;
2° Pour un voyage professionnel, tout document apportant des précisions sur sa profession ou sa qualité ainsi que sur les établissements ou organismes situés sur le territoire français par lesquels il est attendu ;
3° Pour un séjour motivé par une hospitalisation, tout document justifiant qu’il satisfait aux conditions requises à l’article R. 6145-4 du code de la santé publique pour l’admission dans les établissements publics de santé, sauf dans le cas de malades ou blessés graves venant recevoir des soins en urgence dans un établissement français ;
4° Pour un séjour motivé par des travaux de recherche au sens de l’article L. 421-15, le titre de séjour délivré par un Etat membre de l’Union européenne, ou par la Principauté du Liechtenstein, la République d’Islande, le Royaume de Norvège ou la Confédération suisse, la convention d’accueil signée dans le même Etat ainsi que l’un des justificatifs prévus à l’article R. 313-2.
