Article R313-2 of the French Code governing the entry and residence of foreign nationals and the right of asylum

In order to prove that they have the means to meet their living expenses, foreign nationals applying for admission to France may in particular present cash, traveller’s cheques, certified cheques, international payment cards or letters of credit.
The validity of the supporting documents listed in the first paragraph is assessed taking into account the declarations made by the person concerned relating to the duration and purpose of their stay as well as the documents produced in support of these declarations and, where applicable, the period of validity of the visa.

Article R313-2
