For certain activities such as the upkeep or maintenance of equipment and installations, where the possibility of a significant increase in exposure is foreseeable and where all possibilities of taking other technical preventive measures have already been exhausted, the employer shall determine, after consulting the occupational physician and the social and economic committee, the measures necessary to reduce as far as possible the duration of exposure of workers and to ensure their protection during these activities.
The employer shall provide workers with protective clothing and individual respiratory protection equipment. He must ensure that they are worn for as long as exposure persists. Exposure must not be permanent and must be limited for each worker to what is strictly necessary.
Appropriate measures shall be taken to ensure that the areas where the activities referred to in the first paragraph take place are clearly demarcated and signposted and that access to them is prohibited to any unauthorised person.
