Article R4461-6 of the French Labour Code

The procedures, and their parameters, adopted for the various methods of intervention or performance of work are set by joint orders of the Minister for Labour and, each in their respective areas of responsibility, the ministers concerned.

Each order specifies in particular:

1° The breathing gases or gas mixtures authorised, in application of the provisions of sub-section 2 below;

2° The duration of intervention or performance of the work, taking into account the worker’s exposure;

3° The characteristics and conditions of use of the breathing apparatus;

4° The composition of the teams when, by derogation from the provisions of section 5 of this chapter, it is necessary for them to be reinforced to take into account the particular methods and conditions of intervention or performance of the work, in a hyperbaric environment;

5° Prescriptions for use applicable to manned pressurised chambers, in particular recompression chambers, saturation diving systems, therapeutic hyperbaric chambers, diving turrets, diving bubbles and hyperbaric chambers for tunnel boring machines;

6° Compression and decompression procedures and means;

7° Methods of intervention and performance of work as well as rescue procedures and conduct in the event of accidents related to exposure to hyperbaric risk.

Article R4461-6

Les procédures, et leurs paramètres, retenues pour les différentes méthodes d’intervention ou d’exécution de travaux sont fixées par des arrêtés conjoints du ministre chargé du travail et, chacun en ce qui le concerne, des ministres intéressés.

Chaque arrêté précise notamment :

1° Les gaz ou mélanges gazeux respiratoires autorisés, en application des dispositions de la sous-section 2 ci-après ;

2° Les durées d’intervention ou d’exécution des travaux, tenant compte de l’exposition du travailleur ;

3° Les caractéristiques et conditions d’utilisation des appareils respiratoires ;

4° La composition des équipes lorsque, par dérogation aux dispositions de la section 5 du présent chapitre, il est nécessaire que celles-ci soient renforcées pour tenir compte des méthodes et conditions d’intervention ou d’exécution de travaux particulières, en milieu hyperbare ;

5° Les prescriptions d’utilisation applicables aux enceintes pressurisées habitées, notamment aux caissons de recompression, aux systèmes de plongées à saturation, aux caissons hyperbares thérapeutiques, aux tourelles de plongées, aux bulles de plongées et aux caissons hyperbares des tunneliers ;

6° Les procédures et moyens de compression et de décompression ;

7° Les méthodes d’intervention et d’exécution de travaux ainsi que les procédures de secours et la conduite à tenir devant les accidents liés à l’exposition au risque hyperbare.
