Article R4541-8 of the French Labour Code

The employer shall provide workers whose work involves manual handling with:
1° Information on the risks they incur when the activities are not performed in a technically correct manner, taking into account the individual risk factors defined by the order provided for in article R. 4541-6;
2° Appropriate safety training relating to the performance of these operations. During this training, which is essentially practical in nature, workers are informed of the gestures and postures to adopt in order to carry out manual handling safely.

L’employeur fait bénéficier les travailleurs dont l’activité comporte des manutentions manuelles :
1° D’une information sur les risques qu’ils encourent lorsque les activités ne sont pas exécutées d’une manière techniquement correcte, en tenant compte des facteurs individuels de risque définis par l’arrêté prévu à l’article R. 4541-6 ;
2° D’une formation adéquate à la sécurité relative à l’exécution de ces opérations. Au cours de cette formation, essentiellement à caractère pratique, les travailleurs sont informés sur les gestes et postures à adopter pour accomplir en sécurité les manutentions manuelles.
