Article R512-7 of the French Intellectual Property Code

Upon receipt at the Institute, the filing gives rise to the allocation of a national number. Where it has not been possible to mention this number on the filing receipt, it shall be notified to the applicant.

Any subsequent correspondence or filing of documents which does not mention the national filing number, which does not bear the signature of the applicant or his representative or which, where applicable, is not accompanied by proof of payment of the prescribed fee shall be declared inadmissible.

Dès sa réception à l’institut, le dépôt donne lieu à l’attribution d’un numéro national. Lorsqu’il n’a pu être mentionné sur le récépissé du dépôt, ce numéro est notifié au déposant.

Est déclaré irrecevable toute correspondance ou dépôt ultérieur de pièces qui ne rappelle pas le numéro national du dépôt, qui ne porte pas la signature du déposant ou de son mandataire ou qui, le cas échéant, n’est pas accompagné de la justification du paiement de la redevance prescrite.
