Article R5132-79 of the French Public Health Code

Containers or packaging containing narcotics and used for their import or export, transport or possession must bear a label of a size appropriate to their volume, affixed in such a way that it cannot be accidentally detached.

This label bears, in indelible and legible black characters, the following information:

1° For a substance, a plant or a part of a plant: the international non-proprietary name recommended by the World Health Organisation, whenever it exists or, in the opposite case, that of the European or French Pharmacopoeia or, failing this, the scientific name ;

2° For a preparation: its trade name, if any, accompanied by the name of the narcotic substance(s) it contains, expressed as above;

3° The gross mass and tare weight corresponding to the packaging used;

4° The name and address of the manufacturer, distributor or importer;

5° A skull and crossbones on an orange-yellow square background of sufficient size; this square is placed in the top left-hand corner of the label;

6° A reference number for each container or package.

However, in the case of transport, the outer packaging of packages shall bear no indication other than the name and address of the consignor and consignee. Packages are sealed with the sender’s mark.

Article R5132-79

Les récipients ou emballages renfermant des stupéfiants et servant à leur importation ou à leur exportation, à leur transport ou à leur détention sont revêtus d’une étiquette, de format adapté à leur volume, apposée de manière à ne pouvoir être involontairement détachée.

Cette étiquette porte, en caractères noirs indélébiles et lisibles, les indications suivantes :

1° Pour une substance, une plante ou une partie de plante : la dénomination commune internationale recommandée par l’Organisation mondiale de la santé, chaque fois qu’elle existe ou, dans le cas contraire, celle de la Pharmacopée européenne ou française ou, à défaut, la dénomination scientifique ;

2° Pour une préparation : sa dénomination commerciale, s’il y a lieu, accompagnée du nom de la ou des substances stupéfiantes qu’elle renferme, exprimée comme ci-dessus ;

3° La masse brute et la tare correspondant au conditionnement utilisé ;

4° Le nom et l’adresse du fabricant ou du distributeur ou de l’importateur ;

5° Une tête de mort à tibias croisés sur un fond carré de couleur orangé jaune et de dimensions suffisantes ; ce carré est placé à l’angle supérieur gauche de l’étiquette ;

6° Un numéro de référence pour chaque récipient ou emballage.

Toutefois, en cas de transport, les emballages extérieurs des colis ne comportent aucune autre indication que le nom et l’adresse de l’expéditeur et du destinataire. Les colis sont cachetés ou scellés à la marque de l’expéditeur.
