Article R521-1 of the French Code governing the entry and residence of foreign nationals and the right of asylum

Without prejudice to the second paragraph of article 11-1 of decree no. 2004-374 of 29 April 2004 on the powers of the prefects and the organisation and action of the State services in the regions and departments, when a foreign national within French territory applies for asylum, the registration of his application is the responsibility of the departmental prefect and, in Paris, the police prefect.

Article R521-1

Sans préjudice du second alinéa de l’article 11-1 du décret n° 2004-374 du 29 avril 2004 relatif aux pouvoirs des préfets, à l’organisation et à l’action des services de l’Etat dans les régions et départements, lorsqu’un étranger, se trouvant à l’intérieur du territoire français, demande à bénéficier de l’asile, l’enregistrement de sa demande relève du préfet de département et, à Paris, du préfet de police.
