A practitioner working more than three half-days a week who is recognised by the medical committee as suffering from tuberculosis, mental illness, cancer, poliomyelitis or severe and acquired immunodeficiency and who is unable to carry out his duties is automatically placed on long-term leave by decision of the director of the establishment.
Long-term leave may not be granted for less than three months or more than six months. It may be renewed up to a total of five years. In this position, he receives two-thirds of his emoluments. After this total period of leave, the practitioner’s contract lapses.
Long-term leave for an associate practitioner cannot have the effect of extending the duration of the current contract.
