When a foreign national submits a visa application for a stay of more than three months based on a civil status document for which there is serious doubt as to its authenticity, the diplomatic and consular authorities will suspend the processing of the application for a maximum period of four months.
When, despite the care taken, the checks have not been successful, the suspension of the time limit for investigating the application may be extended for a strictly necessary period, which may not exceed four months.
These provisions apply by way of derogation from the provisions of article L. 231-1 of the Code of relations between the public and the administration.
