Chapter II: Offences relating to currency.

The act of accepting, holding or using any unauthorised monetary sign intended to replace coins or banknotes that are legal tender in France is punishable in accordance with article R. 642-2 of the French Penal Code.

Refusing to accept coins or banknotes that are legal tender in France according to their value is punishable in accordance with article R. 642-3 of the French Penal Code.

Using coins or banknotes that are legal tender in France or issued by foreign or international institutions authorised for this purpose as a medium for any form of advertising is punishable in accordance with article R. 642-4 of the French Criminal Code.

Any person who has received counterfeit or falsified coins or banknotes that are legal tender in France and refuses to hand them over or have them handed over to the Banque de France or the public institution La Monnaie de Paris shall be punished in accordance with article R. 645-9 of the French Criminal Code.
