CHAPTER VI: Provisions specific to French Guiana

A Consultative Council of Amerindian and Bushinenge Populations is hereby established in French Guiana. The Council is composed of representatives of the Amerindian and Bushinenge populations.

The composition, the conditions of appointment or designation of the members of the Consultative Council for Amerindian and Bushinenge Populations, its organisation and its operating rules shall be laid down by decree. Members of the Advisory Council for Amerindian and Bushinenge Populations are appointed for a term of six years. Any person appointed to replace a member of the Council serves until the expiry of the term of office of the person he or she replaces. Any draft or proposed decision of the Regional Council or the General Council that has an impact on the environment, the quality of life or concerns the cultural activities of the Amerindian and Bushinenge populations may be submitted to the Advisory Council for its prior opinion. The Consultative Council may decide, by an absolute majority of its members, to take up any issues falling within the remit of the region or department and of direct interest to the environment, living environment or cultural activities of the Amerindian and Bushinenge populations. These matters may also be referred to it by the representative of the State. .

The Consultative Council for Amerindian and Bushinenge Populations may hold joint meetings with the Regional Economic, Social and Environmental Council or the Council for Culture, Education and the Environment to examine issues falling within their common sphere of competence. .
