Paragraph 2: Special provisions for packaging

Natural mineral water is a foodstuff within the meaning of Regulation (EC) No 852/2004 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 29 April 2004 on the hygiene of foodstuffs.

The materials used for packaging natural mineral water, within the meaning of Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 October 2004 on materials and articles intended to come into contact with foodstuffs, are treated or manufactured and used in such a way as to avoid altering the chemical, microbiological and organoleptic characteristics of the water.

The transport of natural mineral water in any containers other than those intended for the final consumer is prohibited.

A natural mineral water and a spring water may be packaged on the same packaging line, provided that the operator is able to provide, at any time, proof of the nature of the packaged water with regard to the sales name appearing on the labelling. The operator guarantees the traceability of the packaged water on the packaging line.
