The provisions of this section apply to top-level athletes on the list mentioned in the first paragraph of article L. 221-2 of the French Sports Code who sign an apprenticeship contract.
The duration of the apprenticeship contract for top-level sportsmen and women may be extended to four years. In this case, the apprentice’s remuneration for the fourth year of the contract is identical to that provided for in article D. 6222-26 for the third year.
Where the apprentice’s sporting activities so require, the teaching provided in the training establishment with a view to leading to the diploma or professional qualification provided for in the contract is spread over a period of time equal to the normal apprenticeship duration for the training in question, plus a maximum of one year.
In the case provided for in article R. 6222-61, the duration of the apprenticeship is extended by a maximum of one year, without prejudice to the conclusion, where applicable, of a new contract with another employer.
The provisions of articles R. 6222-61 and R. 6222-62 also apply to apprentices who are recognised as high-level sportspeople during their apprenticeship.
The apprentice’s employer undertakes to free the apprentice for his sporting activities, and will contact the sports federation to which the top-level sportsperson belongs in order to organise his practical training time. Unless specific provisions are made in the contract, the apprentice is not paid for the periods devoted to these sporting activities.
The training establishment in which the apprentice is registered will contact the sports federation to which the top-level athlete belongs in order to adapt the organisation of the theoretical teaching to the sports calendar.
